PLASMA PEN
PLASMA PEN
WHAT IS A PLASMA PEN
- Is a pen like device.
- The pen discharges a high frequency electric current to a small area of the skin.
- The needle does not touch the skin, but instead releases a targeted injury in the skin layer.
- This process breakdown the protein in the skin and encourage tissue regeneration.
- Stimulated fibroblast activity
- Causes tissue contraction tightening.
- It targets the top layer of the skin (epidermis), as well as the deeper layers of the skin to heat the fibroblast.
- The fibroblast are responsible for the production of collagen.
- By targeting the fibroblast cells, the plasma pen is able to shift dermal structure in order to ignite the skin revitalizing process.
PRE CARE
- If you have any history of hypertrophic scarring and/or keloid scarring and/or hyperpigmentation of the skin, you should NOT proceed with treatment.
- Avoid any sun exposure for at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment.
- Avoid self-tanning lotions in the month prior to treatment.
- Few weeks prior to treatment AVOID any other treatments in the area such as lasers, chemical peels, fillers, micro needling, etc. as these may prevent you from receiving a Plasma Pen treatment at our appointment time.
- top taking any of the following medications 10 days prior to your procedure: Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, Celebrex, and Naprosyn.
- Do not apply any makeup on the day of your procedure.
POST CARE
- Cold compresses with a clean, soft cloth for 10-20 minutes at a time may help.
- Do NOT apply cold compresses directly to the treated area(s) as this will disrupt proper wound healing and lead to complications.
- You can shower and get the treated areas wet 48 hours after treatment, but do NOT scrub or rub the areas. Baby shampoo is the best choice for lathering and cleaning the treatment areas.
- Avoid shaving of all treated areas for 4-5 days after treatment.
- Avoid picking and/or rubbing the treated areas no matter how tempting. Let the peeling and flaking (disappearance of the brown/black dots) occur naturally over the course of 5-10 days. As the dots fall off, the underlying skin will appear pink in color, which is normal.
- Keeping your head above your heart level will help reduce swelling.
- Exercise, saunas, and hot tubs should be avoided for 14 days.
- Do NOT smoke after treatment.
- Continue to avoid use of ny other treatments in the area such as lasers, chemical peels, fillers, micro needling, etc. as these may prevent you from receiving a Plasma Pen treatment at our appointment time.
- SUN EXPOSURE IS TO BE AVOIDED FOR AT LEAST 8 WEEKS AFTER TREATMENT.
- A total sunblock containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide should be applied daily if you are in the sun.
SIDE EFFECT
- A 'stinging' sensation may be felt for the first few hours after treatment.
- Your skin will look inflamed over the first several days, which is normal. 3
- Some patients will note swelling.
- Blisters on the skin
- Bleeding as well as pinpoint bleeding in areas
- Scabs
- Redness on and around the area
EXPECTED RESULTS
- The good news is that the visible side effects of plasma pen treatments will only last a week or two once the scabs fall off and return to normal color. After that, your skin will continue to heal and have the effects of the treatment set in for up to 12 weeks.
